Biography:
Mr. Shigetaka Ogihara, born and raised in Japan, first came to the U.S. in 1972. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley, and was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. Mr. Ogihara then moved to New York and was admitted to practice in the State of New York in 1987. During the late 1980's when real estate investments by Japanese corporations were at a peak in the U.S., Mr. Ogihara belonged to the Real Estate Department of the New York Office of O'Melveny & Myers, an established international law firm, and was involved in numerous real estate transactions. In 1992, Mr. Ogihara started a solo practice and expanded his practice to the areas of contracts, general business and corporate matters. He formed a partnership of Ogihara & Moore, LLP with Kevin O'Rourke Moore, Esq. in 1996 and, upon its dissolution, established the current firm of Ogihara & Associates, PLLC in January 2005. He has also been active in serving as a business advisor for many Japanese entrepreneurs doing business in the United States, as well as for those from Japan who plan to start a new business in the U.S. He has written periodical legal columns and various legal articles in a number of Japanese newspapers and publications.
