The past 12 months have marked a year of growth and change for IOREBA, and it has been a pleasure to observe and contribute to this progress as president. One of the most gratifying aspects of holding this position has been the chance to see, first-hand the energy and commitment that our members give to this valuable trade organization.
Diversity – in background and in experience – is the key to IOREBA’s strength. To this end, in 2008 and 2009 we have continued to grow our broker membership, drawing from companies of all sizes and including professionals both new to commercial real estate and those who bring years of experience. Our expanding associate membership comes from a wide range of industries involved in the ancillary functions of successful real estate transactions.
As always, education and networking are among the clear benefits of trade groups. During the past year, IOREBA has focused strongly on providing a venue for making connections and topical information that members can use in their day-to-day business – especially in today’s challenging cycle.
Our recent programs have ranged from market and incentive program updates, to our first-ever Urban Developer’s Night, to a “Talk Your Way to Success” program that offered tips for persuasive speaking. These meetings drew strong attendance, as did our ever-popular annual programs like Developer’s Night, and our Golf and Tennis Outing.
Providing tools for our members also has been a goal for the outgoing executive board. We all take pride in the newly redesigned IOREBA web site. The new resource directory is making it easier than ever to stay in touch, and the overall format provides many opportunities to share information and to stay on top of our industry and our organization.
In parting, it is my strong belief that there is always more to learn, in good times and in bad. But I think that when times are tougher, it is good to nurture connections that provide opportunities. We are working to make IOREBA invaluable to our members regardless of the economic climate. I look forward to watching our success as we move toward a positive future.
Sincerely,
David Violette
